A popular 16-year-old girl has died after a brave battle with cancer.

Priscilla Gatehouse, a former pupil at Stanway School, Colchester, was diagnosed with the disease two and a half years ago.

Priscilla, whose father Henry died of a heart condition five years ago, died four hours into Mother's Day.

Her mother Rose told how important it was for Priscilla to make it to Mother's Day as she wanted to give her mum a card.

Describing her daughter, Mrs Gatehouse said: "She was really brave and courageous and she never complained about it. She was very sporty, outgoing and was always out and about."

Priscilla, who also enjoyed cooking, planned to be a childminder and relished looking after the children of family and friends.

She received intensive treatment at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, but her condition gradually deteriorated.

Mrs Gatehouse said: "She was really loving and caring. There is an empty space in this house and it will never be the same without her.

"I know she is up there, and she would know I miss her and that I love her very much."

Priscilla also leaves two siblings, Jess, her older brother who is 27, and her older sister, 24-year-old Lena
