The multi-million pound scheme to refurbish Rochford Hospital for long-term mental health patients is moving forward.
District councillors are recommended to agree two schemes for alterations at the site which closed ten years ago as a general hospital.
The proposals will see the creation of a new dining room out of the site's former chapel and improved staff car parking.
Parts of the original site and buildings have already been used for housing including the landmark boiler house which has become the prestigious Rochford Lofts development.
The remainder of the site has been acquired by the South Essex Mental Health and Community Care NHS Trust which is refurbishing some buildings and making additions for patients from Runwell Hospital.
Rochford District Council's head of planning Shaun Scrutton has recommended plans to demolish the existing administration block and part of Gowing House. The cleared area will then be used for the main staff car park with access from Union Lane.
