People power is set to be even stronger in Castle Point thanks to new election procedures.
Following the council elections on Thursday May 1, elections will be held every year for one third of Castle Point Council seats, meaning voters can more quickly influence the make up of the council.
Previously, the whole council would be up for election every four years.
Castle Point Council leader, Dave Wells said: "It will enhance local democracy and make councillors more accountable on a regular basis.
"If there is a change in public mood, it will be reflected more quickly and doesn't allow for anyone to dominate the situation on the council.
"The disadvantage is that it could be less stable, so there are pros and cons. Unfortunately, people use local politics to reflect the national situation.
