A drive-through Pizza Hut and an expanded Asda store are on the cards for Colchester.
Pizza Hut is hoping to create a drive-through restaurant, capable of seating 140 diners, at the Turner Rise Retail Park between Fitness First and the Asda petrol station.
The designs put forward are for a barrel-roof building on a 50m by 23m site currently hosting an unused bottle bank and a grass verge.
Pizza Hut is the largest pizza restaurant company in the world with 12,000 restaurants in 90 countries and more than 300,000 employees.
In a separate application to Colchester Council, Asda is hoping to increase the size of its store, which has a turnover of £44.7 million a year, by an extra 10,000 sq ft.
The new space, which would be an increase of 22 per cent, would be used to increase the selling area for newspapers, magazines and stationery as well as adding sports equipment, textiles, toys, gardening and DIY goods to the range on offer.
