Parking arrangements in Leigh are just the ticket and should stay as they are, councillors insisted.
Leigh Town Council feared plans to introduce controlled parking zones could deter shoppers.
Transport and highways committee chairman Jean Rowswell said: "People are quite happy to run into Leigh and drive round until they find a parking place."
However, Hilary Blundell said: "A lot of people working off the Broadway were using the parking spaces available to residents."
