Four police cadets had to be rescued at Southend police station after a service lift got stuck between floors.
The female cadets faced an uncomfortable night at the station, in Victoria Avenue, Southend, but managed to attract help and firefighters were called just after 11pm yesterday.
Southend fire station officer Pete Bennett said: "At first, we were told it was senior officers who were trapped and we thought they were going to be very red-faced.
"But they told us they were police cadets.
"Because the lift was stuck between floors, we had to go up to the motor room and wind the lift up. I'm not sure how long they were in there."
