Police in riot gear were called into action as Canvey Island FC played their biggest game of the season.
The game against Aldershot had to be halted for two minutes as officers battled to reinforce the gangway separating the two sets of fans at Canvey's Park Lane ground last night.
Aldershot fans climbed onto the pitch as their boys scored the 28th minute penalty which won them the Ryman League match.
It was the biggest crowd in Canvey's history with 3,553 people there to watch the action.
Officers from the Police Intelligence Unit were on the lookout for known trouble-makers.
