Residents in Jaywick are getting all revved up over youngsters riding motorbikes around the unmade roads in the resort

They claim they are a danger to people walking along the streets - and themselves.

The main areas of concern are in Yew Way, Sea Way, along the seawall and roads leading off Broadway.

Residents fear that it is only a matter of time before there is a nasty accident.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said he was worried about the situation and what could be done to resolve it.

"The roads are totally unsuitable for this sort of use and the youngsters are a danger to us and themselves," he said.

"You take your life in your hands at times and I also worry for those on the bikes.

"They rev up making a terrible noise, speed off, do wheelies and then try to pull up very quickly."

Residents have taken the matter up with Essex county and Tendring district councillor Roy Smith.

Mr Smith said that he had also received individual complaints and ones from businesses like Sun Spot Amusement Arcade.

Mr Smith said that he would like to be able to work with Tendring Council and the police in a bid to come up with a suitable site which could be used safely.

"I don't want to spoil these youngsters' enjoyment and there should be a piece of land where they can go to carry out their pursuits without causing a danger to other people," he added.

Others standing in the Golf Green ward of Tendring Council in the May elections are Maurice Alexander (Lab), Kenneth Sargeant (Comm Rep) and Kenneth Spooner (Con).
