A Clacton high school today unveiled its plans for a major facelift costing about £8 million.
Pupils and staff at Clacton County High School are to benefit from £6 million worth of improvements under a private finance initiative for the town and a further £2 million under a Government scheme to provide new community facilities
Principal John Clay said it was the biggest transformation the school had ever undergone.
"We have had new blocks of buildings in the past but this will co-ordinate the whole school as one," he said.
"It is long overdue and they will be facilities that everyone can be proud of and will take us properly into the 21st century."
Initial work on preparing for the scheme has already started and the main work will take place during the summer holidays.
It will be completed for October, 2004.
Bert Foster, chairman of governors, said it was exciting times at Clacton County High and the whole site will undergo refurbishment.
"The main hall will be refurbished as will the whole school," added Mr Foster.
The community bid will involve enhancing the existing music and media areas.
The scheme also includes a new gym with dry and wet changing facilities and toilets with a new staff area above including a kitchen area and study.
Sixth-formers will benefit as well with new accommodation, including a common room, study area and courtyard.
