A new wine bar could be coming to Thorpe Bay under plans revealed today.
Thomas Franks Property Developers, based in Castleton Road, Southend, lodged proposals with Southend Council for the former stationmaster's house which is attached to the railway station itself.
If approved, the scheme would provide a watering hole for commuters arriving back from Fenchurch Street on the c2c rail line in an area which has only a small number of licensed premises, mainly sports clubs.
A spokesman for the applicants said the scheme was very much in the early stages and there were no definite proposals at the present time.
He added: "It is not known at the moment who would operate the wine bar if it was given approval by the council."
