For many with children, the prospect of the Easter holidays will be one of dread two weeks in which to keep them occupied.

Fortunately, there are cheap, local places to go, such as the Purfleet Heritage and Military Centre in Centurion Way, Purfleet.

The Centre is open every Thursday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 10am to 4.30pm and has a wide range of historical displays covering over 300 years from the Napoleonic Period to Count Dracula horror books and the Second World War.

The museum currently has a display covering the events of the Great Flood of 1953, though other exhibitions scheduled for the year include the 60th anniversary of the Dambuster's Raid in May, the Battle of Britain in August and September and the First World War during November and December.
