Tiptree's Ali Carter's flying run in the Regal Scottish Open snooker tournament was brought to an end by 19-year-old Mark Selby on Friday night.
Carter couldn't contain Selby who went on to defeat Ken Doherty in the semi-final before just losing out to David Gray (9-7) in the final last night.
The quarter-final tie had started well for Carter when he took the first frame before Selby stole the second with a 49 clearance to the pink.
A break of 100 put the youngster ahead then Carter won the next two with runs of 55 and 60.
Frame six came down to the colours and Selby claimed it with an excellent long pot on the brown, shrugging off a surprising earlier miss on the same ball.
Contributions of 24 and 52 put Selby 4-3 up and he sealed the match with a nerveless 58 clearance to the pink highlighted by a clever shot on the yellow to nudge the last red off the side cushion.
