A 25-year-old Harwich man is today recovering in a specialist eye hospital after being attacked and struck in the face with a bottle.
The victim - who has not been named by police - is believed to have got pieces of glass in his eye following the assault at a party in the town
The party was staged at abandoned war ministry buildings in Barrack Lane and 14 people were there on Saturday night into yesterday morning.
DC Terry Lambert said he did not want to go into the details of the assault but said the 25-year-old was taken to Colchester General Hospital, where he spent Saturday night on the wards.
He was then transferred to Moorfields Hospital in London, where he had surgery to his eye yesterday.
It is not known how serious the injuries were or how long the man would be staying in hospital.
"We received a call about 1am yesterday and police and paramedics attended the scene of the party," said DC Lambert.
"When we got there, we discovered the victim had a cut above one eye and to his left cheek and it appeared that he had some glass in the eye itself."
DC Lambert said that another 25-year-old man, also from the Harwich area and who has not been named, is helping police with their investigation.
He has been bailed pending further inquiries
