More than 1,000 homes were left without heat or light during a power cut.

A large area of Hadleigh was affected by the blackout on Friday morning as electricity company 24seven fought to fix the problem.

Staff at Hadleigh Infants School, in Bilton Road, were debating whether to make an early start to the Easter holiday and send their pupils home, but were relieved when the power came back on.

A spokesman for 24seven said: "A fault on the underground electricity network interrupted service.

"The majority of customers were only affected for one hour."
