Karl Duguid insisted today a top half of the table finish is definitely on for in-form Colchester United.

Midfielder Duguid scored the goal that earned a 1-1 Layer Road draw with mid-table rivals Notts County.

Saturday's result keeps the U's firmly in 11th spot - just one place above the Second Division halfway mark with four games left to play.

Mark Stallard, 25 League and cup goals for the season, netted the Magpies' equaliser.

"We want to finish higher up the table than we did last season (15th)," said Duguid. "That's our aim and it's definitely on.

"It was great to score the goal that kept our tremendous run going and I'm really enjoying my football.

"I'm getting into some good positions and playing further upfield is giving me a chance to hit the target.

"We haven't been beaten again and that's the main thing," said the Evening Gazette's reigning U's player-of-the-year.

Saturday's 1-1 scoreline stretched the U's run to one defeat in their last 14 matches - seven wins and six draws.

They have now gleaned as many points (27) from these 14 outings as they did in the previous 28 games before former manager Steve Whitton's departure.
