Andy Flower will be pulling on an Essex sweater when the county take on Cambridge University this weekend.

The Zimbabwean, who retired from international cricket following his black armband protest against the Mugabe regime during the World Cup, did not play in the warm up friendlies against Middlesex.

He is named to face the students at Fenners but will not be keeping wicket -- a duty he performed most of last summer after James Foster broke his arm in a pre-season net session.

Foster is now fit to take over behind the stumps. Ronnie Irani will skipper the side during the three-day match at Fenners which starts tomorrow.

England captain Nasser Hussain will be absent and will not appear in the first two championship games as the ECB have told him to rest after his winter tour of Australia and South Africa.
