Three massive storm water tanks, one the size of two houses, are currently being 'dug in' in mid Essex to help stop sewage flooding into the Rivers Blackwater, Brain and Pant.
All the £2.3 million work will shortly be finished. The largest tank is at Park Drive, Maldon.
The 250 cubic metres tank, the size of two houses, will take 198,100 gallons. Total cost of this work is £1m.
Sara Rowland, spokesperson for Anglian Water said the Park Drive work had started in February and would continue until the end of May or early June.
The storm tank had been placed in the ground and all that would show on the surface afterwards would be a section of concrete.
The new tank, which was lowered into place by a huge crane, will help prevent flood water overflow and untreated sewage gushing into the River Blackwater.
Increased environmental standards and climate change which has seen incessant rainfall has caused Anglian Water to order the tanks.
Work on a second £1m storm tank and other treatment tanks which started last August has been ongoing at Rayne, near Braintree.
