Nine travellers' caravans went from the Spa Road playing field, Witham, at the weekend.
A police officer said: "We spoke to them the day they arrived and they promised they would be gone in seven days. They kept their word.
"There have been very few complaints, and only a few arguments with local people. The bollards the travellers dug up to gain access to the site will be replaced and will, hopefully, stop this happening again.
"Gipsy dwellers left piles of rubbish and a burnt-out car on the approach road to the Whetmead nature reserve, off Maldon Road."
