Basildon's Dominic Reed, of Woodlands Short Mat bowls club, reached the semi-finals of the national under-18s singles competition at Milton Keynes.

But he was knocked out in the last four by eventual winner Anthony Faultly of Hainault Imps.

Dominic returns to action in Kettering next week when he represents Essex in national senior competition.

He joins Nigel Reed and Ricky Coster in the triples, then he and Nigel are partnered by Colin Smith and June Dulieu in the fours.

Val and Tony Miles from Basildon's Sanguine club compete in the pairs, while clubmates Roy Gavin, Michelle Howe and Mark Castle go in the triples.

Canvey Appleton's Adam Sultana forms a four with East Hanningfield pair Pat and Bill Dilworth and GPCA's Ian Arthur.
