Rochford Hundred golfers found the going tough in the April medal over the weekend with none of the competitors able to play under their handicap.

The cold, biting wind took its toll but nevertheless the competition for places was very fierce.

Mick Curran fired eight pars in his 84-10=74 which was just good enough to edge out Ray Weidner (79-4=75) for Saturday's Division 1 honours. Weidner had a birdie plus eight pars.

It needed a countback to decide Division 2 with Eric Stanley (87-15=72) just pipping Bill Rusga (84-12=72) thanks to a better back nine. Stanley had a birdie and three pars while highlights for Rusga was a birdie and six pars.

Division 3 was also decided on a better back nine after John Hodges (91-18=73) and Roger Newell (96-23=73) were deadlocked. Hodges squeezed home with four pars while Newell also parred four holes but paid the penalty for three triple bogeys.

Dai Young also won on countback from John Frye in Sunday's Division 1. Young enjoyed eight pars in his 82-9=73 while Frye (83-10=73) parred seven holes.

John Harvey birdied the 11th and shot seven pars on his way to Division 2 success with 84-11=73 to see off the challenge from his close pal Bobby Locke who had eight pars in his 85-11=74.

Division 3 winner was Eric Davison (95-20=75) ahead of Jim Bryan (93-17=76). Davison had three pars while Bryan managed five pars.
