Steve Dickens was pipped at the post in his bid to win the Kent Flounder League.
The Stanford-le-Hope angler lost by a single point to Kentish winner Dick Reeder, who claimed top spot with 13 points.
The league was contested over four rounds and Dickens came second in the final competition at All Hallows at the weekend with seven flounders for 3lb 10.5oz, which also netted him the Zone A prize.
Benfleet's Ian Reynolds caught six flounders for 3lb 3oz to win Zone B, come second on the day and finish 11th overall.
Craig Gore from Shoebury took the Zone C honours and fourth on the day with six flounders totalling 3lb 2.5oz.
The overall standings for the 70 anglers participating saw Canvey duo Jason Speller and Dion Macfayden come eighth and ninth, with Benfleet's Rick Hodson finishing in the top 20.
