More than 160 Essex teacher vacancies have already been announced for September, and the numbers are set to grow in the lead-up to the new academic year.
Official numbers of vacancies have not yet been released by Essex County Council, which sent out survey forms to schools in December.
Aside from the current teacher gaps, 161 vacancies will be created in county schools at the end of this academic year.
Those are the ones already known about, and many more are expected over the coming months as teachers resign, retire or take promotions.
Of those 161 vacancies, 61 are in mid and north Essex. In local secondary schools, 39 posts are set to become vacant in September. They include a number of jobs at the Colne Community School in Brightlingsea, Clacton County High School, Plume School in Maldon and Tabor High School in Braintree. None of the jobs advertised at this stage are in Colchester.
There are 72 Essex primary school jobs set to become vacant, of which just 19 are in mid and north Essex. They include the headteacher post at Langenhoe Primary, as well as class teachers at Hamilton Primary School and St Thomas More Catholic School in Colchester, and Broomgrove Junior School in Wivenhoe.
There also six posts in special schools, of which half are in mid and north Essex, including vacancies at Market Field School, Elmstead.
