Thieves made off with a PlayStation when they raided Clacton Ambulance Station while paramedics were out on a call.
They broke in through the back window on the building in Valley Road between 2am and 4am yesterday.
The burglary was discovered when the crew returned.
Terry Howell, an operations manager, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"This is a dispicable crime and someone has targeted the station while the crew is out dealing with an emergency," he said.
"The station is open 24 hours a day but there was only one crew on duty at this time and they were out on a call."
Mr Howell said the PlayStation game was there for when paramedics were relaxing between jobs.
"That does not happen very often at a busy station like Clacton but it is a shame that it has been stolen," he added.
Mr Howell asked anyone with information to contact Clacton police on 01255 221312.
