Fury has erupted after scores of disabled drivers were wheel-clamped when new parking arrangements came into force in a shopping centre.
Angry - Karen Bisson with daughter Eloise Cordwell Picture: LUAN MARSHALL
Shocked motorists - many with severe disabilities - who had parked for years in the service roads around Basildon town centre suddenly found themselves having to pay £95 to escape the clutches of clampers active in the area.
One single mum, who suffers from a severe heart and lung condition, could not afford to pay the release fee.
Karen Bisson, 43, of Blackmores, Laindon, said: "I'm never coming to Basildon shopping again."
Jim Furnival, the general manager from Basildon town centre management company, said: "All the roads have signs making it clear that clamping is in operation.
"We will releaflet the area tomorrow morning."
