Babies and toddlers will be throwing off their disposable diapers and enjoying the effect of reusable nappies - as part of Real Nappy Week.
Parents will be given free trial packs of reusable nappies this week so they can see for themselves the cost, health and environmental benefits of real nappies.
Nappy days - mum Jayne Solkhon tries a reuseable nappy on two-year-old Corran Picture: ROB BROWNE
More than 300,000 disposable nappies are buried in Essex landfill sites every day, contributing to over four per cent of household waste.
Jayne Solkhon, 27, of Brisco Road, Pitsea, tested out the reusable nappies yesterday on her son, Corran, who is two.
She said: "Real nappies should be easier to clean than the old Terry towelling ones."
Free trial packs of reusable nappies will be given away on Thursday, from 10am to 3pm at the Eastgate Centre (outside Allders) as part of the Real Nappy Campaign 2003 from April 7 to 13. For details about Real Nappies, call 01268 294415.
