Police are still hunting a gunman who shot a man in the face in the street.
The suspect has been on the run since the incident in Glenhurst Road, Southend, on Friday morning.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was shot in the face with a pellet gun and was treated for facial injuries at Southend Hospital.
He has now been released and is staying at a secret address as officers still fear for his safety while his attacker is on the loose. Police originally arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the incident but have since released him on bail saying they believe they know the identity of whoever is responsible.
They are urging their suspect, a 28-year-old man, to hand himself in at the nearest police station.
A police spokesman said: "We are still following up inquiries to trace the suspect. We have quite a few eye witnesses to the event."
