A lorry loaded with 38 tonnes of paper rolled over outside a school.
The truck was attempting to negotiate a roundabout in Broadmayne, Basildon, near the Barstable School fence yesterday when it tipped and skidded on its side.
The driver suffered glass cuts to his face and head and was treated by ambulance officers before being taken to hospital.
Head teacher Jonathon Oddie raised the alarm and sent the school first-aider to the scene.
He said: "I heard an almighty crash and saw a lorry lying on its side.
"I saw a student gesticulating toward the accident and called the police, ambulance and fire brigade. I was proud of the way they recognised the danger and stood back."
