Merryland School came out on top at the hugely successful junior school rugby tournament at Basildon Rugby Club last week.
They beat Wickford's Grange School in the final, while Whitmore picked up the fair play award and Greenstead caught the eye with a excellent rugby which was a try away from earning them a semi-final place.

More than 250 children took place as 22 teams locked horns at Gardiners Close, as more than five hours of action provided a real feast of rugby.
"It went brilliantly and it was great to see such a good standard of rugby," said organiser Wendy LeGrave. "It has improved a lot over the past year and it's good news that several schools have now introduced rugby into their PE lessons.
"Pupils are very enthusiastic -- and even if they're only throwing the ball round during break times, at least they're getting a feel for the game and working on their handling skills."
The event was sponsored by Gardeners Insurance, who were on hand to dish out prizes to the top teams.
