A couple celebrated their golden wedding with a family party and meal at the Lakeside Moathouse Hotel, North Stifford.
Ron, 80, and Betty, 73, Dodd of Monks Haven, Stanford-le-Hope, were married in Laindon 50 years ago but have lived most of their lives in Thurrock.

They met by chance when Ron turned up at Betty's work on a decorating job. Then they discovered that they were near neighbours with houses backing on to one another.
Ron later worked at West Thurrock power station for many years.
The couple have three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
