Two south Essex housing associations are to receive a Government cash boost to provide shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
Parent company Shaftesbury Housing Association has received £206,950 which will go to its subsidiary Ashley Homes to convert a house into sheltered accommodation for domestic violence survivors.
And a project developed by Castle Point Council, Rochford District Council and Cygnet Housing to fund five self-contained flats as a women's refuge has been given £310,000. The project is still awaiting a decision on revenue funding.
Shaun Cahill, of the Shaftesbury Housing Association, said: "We rely on funding to provide these services for victims of domestic abuse in Southend. This money will provide a service they need and deserve."
