The Earl and Countess of Wessex were in Essex today to attend a service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of floods which devastated the east coast of England, claiming hundreds of lives.
The Countess of Wessex arrives in Chelmsford today
The service was held at Chelmsford Cathedral, Essex and remembered those affected by the floods of 1953, including the 307 people who died in eastern England.
The service was led by the Rt Rev John Perry, Bishop of Chelmsford, and the Dean, the Rev Peter Judd.
Following the service, the Earl and Countess were due to attend a reception and lunch at County Hall, Chelmsford.
Irene Johnson 59 from Galleywood said: "It's sad that the Queen couldn't turn up but it's good to see Prince Edward and Sophie here."
