A woman disturbed three youths trying to break into her Ford Escort parked in Thisselt Road, Canvey.
The youths, who were seen carrying a crowbar, ran off when the woman approached.
More than £200 worth of damage was caused as the youths had smashed a window and broken the steering lock during the incident.
