A treasure hunter took an unexploded bomb he discovered on the beach back home with him.
Army bomb disposal experts from Colchester blew up the 30cm shell in Dovercourt today after a youngster unearthed it with his metal detector.
The shell, described as rusty with a shiny head, was found on Dovercourt beach late last night by a youth.
Harwich police said the youngster took the device back to his home in Hudson Close before his parents reported it at 11.20pm yesterday
The device was safely detonated at West End Lane at 9.50am today
