A much improved performance from Brentwood failed to produce any pointsbut will have provided some encouragement for their forthcoming games.
The pattern of the game soon set itself in the first half with the home side having the majority of possession. Brentwood looked dangerous on the break, the best chance coming when Luca Ross and Martin Cooper combined well to drive into their opponents 'D'.
Cooper was denied the opportunity to shoot however he did win a short corner. Ian Forbes tried one of his trademark drag flicks but the keeper was equal to it and managed to palm the ball away.
Pelicans looked certain to take the lead when the ball fell kindly to one of their forwards with keeper Paul Johnson off his goal line.
The shot flew goalwards only to be cleared by Matt Piggott who had retreated to cover the goal line.
A goal less scoreline at halftime looked good for Brentwood who were starting to think they could provide an upset.
Pelicans had other ideas as they managed to snatch the lead ten minutes after the restart.
A ball played across the top of the 'D' was hit first time on the reverse stick and just managed to slip past Johnson's foot before hitting the post and bouncing over the goal-line.
Rob Cousins came closest to equalising when a short corner shot rebounded to him but he was just tackled before he could shoot.
