Brightlingsea is to get its first Royal visit in 80 years.
The Princess Royal will be going to the Colne Community School next month to open new sports facilities on the site.
A new artificial pitch and changing rooms costing £750,000 have recently been completed at the school in Church Road with help from a lottery grant.
The princess will visit the town on February 25.
Terry Creissen, principal at Colne Community School, said it was a great honour and everyone was looking forward to the occasion.
"It is the first ever royal visit to the school and I believe it is the first to Brightlingsea since Queen Mary in 1923," he said.
