Young drivers who have been using Notley High School as a racetrack will be stopped from getting into the grounds by new gates and barriers.
Notley Road residents have been disturbed by youths driving their cars around the car park and on the school fields behind the sports centre at night.
One resident said: "Having the gates is a step in the right direction, but they will just move somewhere else.
"There have been youths driving around the school fields two or three times this month. They go around screeching and flashing their headlights at 11 to 12 o' clock at night."
The Notley Road school is introducing the new gates and barriers as a part of an extensive ground maintenance project, which will see gates and fencing installed around the front and rear of the grounds.
The new gates, which will stop cars entering the site after the school closes, will be put up within the next two weeks.
Head teacher, John Hartley said: "There have been particular occasions with unauthorised driving around the school grounds in the late evening and the gates will stop this from happening."
