Coarse 86 angling club are celebrating an Essex Inter-club League double.

The Shotgate anglers have just won the Division Three championship and saw team member Kenny Hannel claim the individual title.

The twin success came in only the club's second year in the competition, which covers Essex and Suffolk.

"Last year we fished with not a very strong team because it was our first year," said Coarse 86 chairman and captain Malcolm Payne.

"Then we realised the competition was a bit stronger than we thought, so we advertised that we were looking members and came up with the team that we have now.

"We entered the division two years ago, so we have done quite well really. We'll just have to hope we keep up our winning streak next season and go up into the first."

Coarse 86 scored 31 points to beat Sudbury team Joe's Road into second place with 27.5 points over the six-match season.

Kenny won the individual title with 41 points, 12 ahead of second-placed S Godfrey from Haverhill. Malcolm was third with 28.5 points -- just half a point behind Mr Godfrey.

The 140-strong Coarse 86 club will contest Division Two when the new season gets under way in June.
