Organisers today revealed the proposed date for this year's Canvey Festival which is set to return by popular demand.

More than 20,000 people turned up on Canvey seafront last year to enjoy a day of fun activities in the sunshine.

Members of regeneration group Canvey 2000 have been holding a series of meeting with bosses at the Monico Pub, on the island's Eastern Esplanade to thrash out the details of the one-day carnival.

Councillor Dennis Williams, chairman of Canvey 2000, said organisers had pencilled in Sunday, July 13, for this year's festival.

He said: "We are still in the early stages of organising the festival and there is much to do, but I know many people will be pleased to hear we are determined to stage the festival again this year.

"We have earmarked July 13 for the festival, but we still have to have that date approved by Castle Point Council before it can be confirmed."

Mr Williams said organisers will have put together a comprehensive plan of action in regards to the festival in the next two to three weeks.

At last year's festival people enjoyed a mass balloon release, stalls, a bucking bronco, face-painting and music from a variety of bands.

It was the first time Canvey locals have enjoyed a spectacular street party since the former Canvey Carnival was scrapped in 2000 due to lack of support.
