Chelmsford-based environmental monitoring company AES has won a major part of one of the biggest air pollution monitoring contracts in the country.
The company has secured almost half of an Environment Agency framework agreement, worth in excess of £500,000 over three years.
The contract involves AES testing stack emissions at 44 major industrial sites throughout England and Wales, including waste incinerators, chemical manufacturers and minerals companies.
Working on behalf of the Agency, AES scientists will measure pollution emissions, including dioxins and heavy metals, from chimney stacks at the sites to check they are not exceeding the levels permitted by environmental regulations.
Dan Keating, AES air quality manager, said: "Winning a large number of the sites under the framework agreement is great news for AES and recognises our ability to provide accurate and reliable sampling and analysis across a range of industries."
News of the contract win comes as the company has officially been awarded MCERTS (the Environment Agency's Monitoring and Certification Scheme) accreditation for its stack air emissions monitoring service.
