Residents in Colchester could see a hike in their tax.
Colchester Council's cabinet has recommended a council tax increase of 12.5 per cent, meaning people in band D properties will a face a yearly council tax bill for the borough of £136.87.
Colin Sykes (Lib Dem, Stanway), leader of the council, said: "After all the efforts made to bridge the budget gap by saving £2 million... it is very disappointing to have to raise council tax by this level.
"Unfortunately, there are cost pressures outside the council's control.
"However, to put the increase in context, it is just 29p per week for properties at Band D, the standard band."
