Ian Westlake has vowed to turn on the style when Ipswich Town tackle Jewson League strugglers Harwich.

The Clacton-based midfielder is in the squad for tomorrow's prestigious friendly, arranged to mark the opening of new dressing rooms at the Royal Oak.

And, determined to catch the watchful eye of boss Joe Royle, Westlake said: "I'm always looking to impress the manager.

"This is as good a chance as any and I'm treating it just like a normal reserve-team match.

"Harwich might be struggling in the league but they've got an experienced squad. It's a great chance to show what I'm capable of."

Westlake has made two first-team appearances against Gillingham in Division One and Middlesbrough in the Worthington Cup.

Now, desperate to follow in the footsteps of Darren Ambrose, Darren Bent and Matt Richards, he added: "Watching them has really whet my appetite.

"It's going to be difficult breaking into a winning team but I'm determined and very willing to learn."

Meanwhile, Thomas Gaardsoe has been cleared to play in Ipswich's match against Sheffield United on February 8.

The defender picked up his fifth booking of the season in the FA Cup thriller at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

However, two of those yellow cards occurred in the UEFA Cup - he was booked in both legs of the tie against Slovan Liberec - and do not not count in the League.
