A call has been made to rethink a proposed increase in the cost of burials in Tendring.
It is proposed to increase charges by 15 per cent in a bid to boost funds.
But council watchdogs have asked the Cabinet to review the matter.
They also want the increase not to go over ten per cent.
The recommendation by the overview and scrutiny committee will be considered at a later date.
The proposed increase is from £298 to £357 for new graves for adults to district-council run cemetery sites at Clacton, Kirby Cross and Dovercourt.
For children it is proposed to increase it from £90 to £104 for those aged up to three years old and from £126 to £140 for those aged between four and 12 years old.
