Two company directors accused of the manslaughter of a 15-year-old boy will be tried at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Lewis Courtney, 54, of Marshfoot Road, Grays, and James Holland, 47, of Seaborough Road, Chadwell St Mary each face a charge of manslaughter.
They are both directors of quarry operator Clearserve Ltd.
The company itself is also charged with corporate manslaughter.
There are an additional three charges relating to breaches of the Health and Safety Act.
The two directors were arrested following the death of Dean Butler, 15, a former pupil of Chalvedon School in Wickford Avenue, Pitsea, who was killed by a concrete crusher at the Rainbow Shaw Quarry in Linford, near Stanford, in December 2001. Dean had been working at the quarry for three days when he died in a concrete crushing machine.
The matter reached court following a joint investigation by Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
The case will next be heard for plea and directions at Chelmsford Crown Court on March 24.
The two company directors were released on unconditional bail.
