Unscrupulous property companies are encouraging people to abuse the Government's Right to Buy scheme, according to a leading councillor.

Reg Copley, councillor for St Luke's ward, Southend, has hit out at property companies trying to cash in on the local authority discounted housing sell-off.

He said: "Companies are deliberately trying to get hold of housing for profit and development."
