A car business is looking to move out of Tendring because of the problems it has suffered over the operation of its site.

Jewell Fleet Services, which is based at Pump Hill Garage in St John's Road, Clacton, is searching for a new location in another area.

General manager Clayton Jeffries said the decision had been made due to "constant hassle" from Tendring Council.

Mr Jeffries said the operation employed 53 people and also brought in agency staff who were put up in guesthouses which helped boost the economy.

Mr Jeffries said they had to fight for permission to use a nearby farm to store its cars - and that had now finally been aprroved.

They were also taken to task over security equipment which was put up without planning permission.

Now Tendring councillors have decided to take legal action over the amount of space the company is using to display its vehicles.

Planning officer Peter Le Grys said a site meeting was staged in August because of the concerns.

"Despite further correspondence no application has been received and it is suggested legal proceedings should now be pursued," he added.
