A huge tanker carrying ethanol sprang a leak after it jack-knifed on the A12, causing traffic chaos.
The driver of the French articulated lorry sustained minor injuries when he lost control and veered into the central reservation near the Boreham interchange outside Chelmsford.
The tanker was carrying a small amount of ethanol which began oozing on to the road but firefighters plugged the leak using a special paste.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Police and fire crews from Clacton, Witham, Chelmsford and Great Baddow and a rescue tender from Colchester all attended the accident at about 4.15pm on Friday
