The Dockers were entitled to feel aggrieved at losing at home to their big-spending Ryman Division One North promotion-chasing visitors.
Tilbury gave a good account of themselves and were only beaten four minutes into injury-time when ex-Crystal Palace man Andy Martin headed home.
Earlier the Urchins took a 56th minute lead when ex-West Ham, Charlton and Billericay favourite Steve Jones was controversially judged to have been brought down by home keeper Andy Folkard. Jones scored from the spot.
But Tilbury levelled from their own penalty eight minutes later, with Jean-Marie Okita doing the business after Ricky Downs had been felled by keeper Paul Woods.
