A teenage girl was today recovering after being stabbed in the face at Frinton railway station in broad daylight

The 15-year-old from the town was attacked with a penknife by another youth

The assault happened on the platform at the station on Saturday morning.

The incident was reported to police at 10am but is believed to have happened a short time before that.

The victim was taken to a doctor's surgery close to the station for treatment. She was given four stitches before being allowed home.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Fortunately, it does not appear to have been a very serious injury and the wound seems to have been fairly superficial."

PC Paul Deboick, who is dealing with the assault, said the girl had been walking in the area and spotted some friends. He added: "She went over to talk to them. There was a verbal altercation. She was then stabbed with the penknife and received a wound to her chin."

Anyone who saw anything is asked to contact British Transport Police on 02073915275.

A 17-year-old youth from Frinton has been arrested and questioned by British Transport Police in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Clacton police station next month
