Firefighters were again called to Southend Pier after renovation work left a wooden beam smouldering.
Four crews were sent to the scene around 4.30am yesterday, though only two were needed, and it took an hour-and-a-half to bring the fire under control.
Station officer Peter Bennett, of Southend fire station, said: "There was not a great deal of damage."
