Detectives were today still questioning a man arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a body in Laindon.
The dead man has been named as Sean Hand, in his 50s, who was found in a pool of blood at his home in Kathleen Ferrier Crescent early yesterday.
A post mortem examination revealed Mr Hand had died from severe head injuries. It is not believed a weapon was used.
Diligent : the front door of the house is examined for clues
Police patrolling the area came across a man in blood-stained clothes outside Mr Hand's house at about 4.20am yesterday.
After a search of the home officers found Mr Hand's body in a ground floor front room.
A police spokesman said they believed the man arrested - a 22-year-old local man - was known to Mr Hand.
